The Business Change Questions Every Owner Must Answer
“Let’s make some changes” is not a business plan. It is the beginning of a mess.
The playbook asks the questions that force a real decision: What results do you want? What changes are required? How long will it take? What is the cost versus the benefit? How will you create the change? Where do you begin? How will you overcome inertia? How will you know when you arrive? Who decides, and when?
Define the Result Before You Debate the Tactic
If the result is fuzzy, the work will be fuzzy. The owner, partners, and staff need clarity about the income and quality-of-life result being pursued before they choose a process to change.
Put Cost and Ownership on the Table
Every change has a cost, a benefit, and an owner. Avoiding those conversations does not make the decision easier. It just makes accountability disappear when implementation gets hard.
Decide How Progress Will Be Known
You cannot declare victory because the team was active. The question “How will you know when you arrive?” forces the business to establish controls and measures instead of relying on enthusiasm.
Before you launch the next initiative, answer the questions that make it real.
